Full Proposal

Two new external doors are proposed to be installed, replacing the existing timber doors. The new external doors with large glazing panels will allow for safe access for all users to enter and exit the Hall safety throughout the day and evening. Currently, the timber doors do not provide any visibility to who is entering the Hall or any modern safety locks which is a risk for the community and users. The proposed doors are aluminium, double glazed single doors, which will provide improved thermal insulation, reducing heating costs for the Hall. The proposed doors requiring replacement are not on the main elevation of the building and have limited visibility from the road, one being down multiple steps. The existing footpath to the entrances and exits are degraded and have multiple trip hazards. This is preventing wheelchair users and community members with mobility issues to safely enter the basement. Given the main entrance has stairs to access, it is imperative the basement entrance and exit is accessible to everyone. We are proposing both new macadam surfacing and expanding the area of the existing path. This will minimally reduce the green space on the site, however, will provide a much improve entrance to the building which will be invaluable for complete accessibility. A new handrail to the existing steps is proposed to be installed to ensure this area is also as accessible and safe, without removing or damaging the listed building or grounds. Additionally, vents have been installed in some of the top panels of the existing windows and fitted with plywood boards. While refurbishing the windows we are proposing to relocate the vents through the wall which will provide a more sympathetic and discrete finish. Refer to proposed elevations for locations of proposed vents.
